Distress Mixology No. 2 Inspiration

Hi friends! I hope you’re having a great week. If you’re following along with my Distress Mixology series than today is a fun day! I’m sharing a card I created using the color palette from Distress Mixology No. 2. This color palette consists of Distress Tattered Rose, Spun Sugar, Saltwater Taffy, Antique Linen and Shaded Lilac inks, sprays, oxides and paints. I created swatches using each color in the same mediums and then swatches of the same colors using different mediums. You can find all the results from Distress Mixology No. 2 here.

For today’s make, I chose to use the paints only background. I decided to chose this one because of the dreamy flow of the colors and I felt it went really well with the theme I chose which was shabby chic. Here is what I came up with.

Below is a full tutorial on how I created this card. Enjoy!

I created the background for the card using Distress Paints in Saltwater Taffy, Spun Sugar, Tattered Rose, Shaded Lilac and Antique Linen. I placed a drop of paint onto a craft mat and spritzed it with water. I moved the paint around with my finger to break up the dollop of paint. Next, I spritzed a piece of cardstock with water. I then ran the cardstock through the paint and water mixture picking up the paint with the cardstock and drying each layer in between. I then moved on to the next color and completed the same process. I made sure to do this with one color at a time so as not to make much.

I stenciled on the Tim Holtz Thorned mini stencil with opaque grit paste and allowed it to completely dry. Once the paste was dry, I colored the stems and flowers with Distress Crayons. I smoosed a bit of the crayon pigment onto a craft mat and picked up the pigment with a waterbrush. I then “painted” the pigments on the flowers and stems.

Next, I added a little script imagery from the Tim Holtz Script & Ledger stamp set (CMS241) using Distress Shaded Lilac Oxide. I stamped the image in random areas concentrating my stamping on the edges. Next, I tattered the edges and inked them with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

I create the frame for the photo by dabbing on a bit of White Picket Fence Distress Paint with a paintbrush.

I don’t want the frame to be completely white so I gently dab off a little of the paint before it completely dries with a paper towel. I allow the paint to completely dry before moving on to the next step.

When the white paint is completely dry, I dab on a bit of Spun Sugar Distress Paint in random areas. I allow that to completely dry.

To finish the frame and give it an antique look, I dab the edges with Mushroom alcohol ink.

To complete the card, I place the main card panel onto a piece of cardstock that has been inked with Shaded Lilac Distress Ink & Oxide Sprays. I distress the edges and ink them with Distress Vintage Photo Ink. I layer that conto a piece of mixed media cardstock that has been stamped with a bit of script imagery. I used the same stamp set as I did on the main card panel.

Next, I added my photo to the center of the card, placed the frame on top and added pieces of Idea-ology ephemera, a resin flower and some metal pieces to complete the card.

I hope you enjoyed seeing what I created with the second Distress Mixology palette and that hopefully I’ve inspired you to create something using this beautiful palette.

Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end. I appreciate the time you spend here with me! Have a wonderful rest of your week!
