Embossed Background for Mixed Media

Hi Everyone! Let’s start the week off with a new and fun challenge on the  Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. This week our challenge is, Tag It! I decided to create a tag with an embossed background by using embossing paste and one of my favorite background stamps. It’s easy, and creates a beautiful background with little effort. I hope you join me below to see how I put this tag together and that you give this technique a try. It’s so fun! Enjoy!

Also, stop on over to see what our guest designer, Amber Sheaves from Pieces of Me  created this week. Last week she created another amazing journal page with a dreamy background. Check it out, you’ll be so happy you did. She’s amazing!

Mixed Media Tag with Embossed Background

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 1

To begin creating an embossed background for the tag, I apply Wendy Vecchi White Embossing Paste. Apply the paste just like you’re frosting a cake.

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 2

Immediately spray on two of your favorite colors of Distress Spray Stain in random areas. (I used Peeled Paint and Broken China Distress Spray Stain.) Remember to leave some white areas too.

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 3

Choose a background stamp and spray it with water.

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 4

Quickly place the wet background stamp over the wet embossing paste.  Press gently all over to embed the design into the wet embossing paste.

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 5

After removing the background stamp, remember to clean it immediately.  Next, allow the tag to completely dry. (For best results, allow it to air dry.)

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 6

Now that the tag is completely dry, go over the edges with Black Soot Distress Paint.

Creating An Embossed Mixed Media Background Step 7

Create a mixture of water and white gesso and add to the area where you will place your focal point. I’m adding flowers to the left side of the tag so I apply the gesso in that area. This will allow your focal point to stand out.

Mixed Media Tag with Embossed Background

To finish the tag, I add some flowers from the Tim Holtz Mini Bouquet stamp set and a sentiment from the Tim Holtz Small Talk sticker set. That’s it, easy, simple and beautiful results.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put together this tag for our, Tag It, challenge and that you’ll give this background technique a try. Thanks for sticking with me to the end. I really appreciate you spending your time with me.
