Handmade Notebook – Quick and Easy

Hi Everyone! This week’s Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge is one that can be interpreted in many different ways. The theme is, Take Note. You can create your own notebook, use notebook paper on your project or alter a notebook….of course there could be other ways to interpret the challenge too. Let your imagination run wild. I decided to create a quick and easy notebook that only took about 30 minutes to create. See how I put it all together below.

Also, stop by Stacy Hutchinson’s beautiful blog, Tattered Nest Designs. Last week she created an absolutely gorgeous tag. Her style is amazing and you won’t want to miss out on her latest creation for the challenge.

Quick and Easy Handmade Notebook

Creating a Quick and Easy Notebook - Step 1

I begin by choosing a piece of cardstock from the Tim Holtz Dapper Paper Stash Collection and cut a 12×12 piece down to 7″ x 10″. My finished notebook will measure 5″ x 7″.

Creating a Quick and Easy Notebook - Step 2

I ink the edges with Forest Moss and Black Soot Distress Ink.

Creating a Quick and Easy Notebook - Step 3

I like my notebooks without lines, so I cut 5 sheets of 8-1/2″ x 11″ copy paper down to 6-3/4″ x 9-3/4″. Using a bone folder, I crease them in half.

Creating a Quick and Easy Notebook - Step 4

I fold the cover in half and crease with a bone folder. I then slip the folded copy paper inside the cover and sew the binding together with a sewing machine.

Creating a Quick and Easy Notebook - Step 5

Next, I choose pieces of ephemera and layered papers from the Tim Holtz Collector Layers, Snippets Ephemera and Botanical Layers. I distress the larger pieces and ink them with coordinating Distress Inks. The sentiment is from the Tim Holtz Chip Quotes.

Creating a Quick and Easy Notebook - Step 6

I’m happy with the arrangement and add May Arts Natural Burlap Twine to tie everything together.

To finish the notebook, I add a couple more butterflies and some Tim Holtz Idea-ology pieces. Below are some closeups.
