Masculine Cards – Road Trip Challenge

It’s a beautiful day for a new challenge on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. Our theme this week is, Road Trip. I find it difficult to create masculine cards, but creating a metal background helps get the creativity flowing. I’ve used a simple technique to create one. So join me below and find out how I put it all together.

Also, don’t forget to stop by our guest designer for the month of March, Bonnie from My Stuff, My Life. Her Spring inspired bags last week were beautiful.

Masculine Card

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 1

I begin by creating the metal background for my card by cutting a piece of cardstock and a piece of Ranger Foil Sheets.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 2

The foil sheets have an adhesive backing so I attach the foil to the cardstock and smooth out the wrinkles.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 3

I emboss the foil covered cardstock with the Tim Holtz Gears embossing folder.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 4

Next, I cover the entire surface with Black Soot Distress Paint.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 5

After allowing the paint to sit on the surface for about 20 seconds, I wipe it off with a Kleenex hand towel. The paint stays in the groves exposing the amazing background. I set the panel aside to completely dry.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 6

I create a small focal point for my card using the Tim Holtz Travel Ways stamp set.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 7Next, ink the edges with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink to give it some depth.

Creating Masculine Cards - Step 8

For my Route 66 embellishment, I create a small tag using the Tim Holtz Tag Press tool and Tag Press Rings.

To complete the card, I adhere the focal point to the center top half of the card and apply Tim Holtz Chatter Design tape along the edges. I add the Route 66 tag to the center bottom half of the card in front of some burlap twine wrapped around the main card panel. I then add a Tim Holtz Star Adornment along the design tape and to finish off the card, I adhere the main card panel to a piece of Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red cardstock and a piece of Simon Says Stamp Black cardstock.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created my card and that you will join us in this fun challenge. Remember you could win a $50 gift voucher to Simon’s amazing store by linking your project to the challenge.
