Merry & Bright – Whimsical Winter Background

Hi friends! It’s time to put the holiday making in full swing and I have to admit I got bit by the cuteness bug. Every once in a while I just have the urge to create something cute and whimsical. Who remembers those cute little gingerbread characters from the Fresh Baked 2 Tim Holtz Sizzix die set? They were one of my favorites. Creating a wintery whimsical background can be done in a couple of super easy steps and then you can just build your scene using the dies you already have. I hope you find this helpful in putting together a quick and easy cute and whimscal card. Enjoy!

Cut a piece of 4-1/4 x 5-1/2 piece of watercolor paper and ink the top half with Broken China Distress Ink by smooshing the ink pad on a craft mat and picking up the color with a broad waterbrush. Brush the ink across and dry. Brush another layer across the top half panel and dry. Lastly, dip the waterbrush in the rest of the ink on the craft mat and swirl it on the top half creating a windy whimsical sky and allow the panel to completely dry. Adhere a few snowflakes in random areas. Next, tear a few pieces of white cardstock to create snowy hills and adhere them to the bottom half of the panel.

After creating several different whimsical style die pieces like the gingerbread characters, presents, trees, candy canes, etc., place them on the background in a fun setting. When you’re satisfied with the scene, adhere everything down and create more snowy hills out of ripped white cardstock to place on top of your scene.

That’s it! Wasn’t that the most simple whimsical background for a cute Christmas scene? I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put this card all together and that you’ll give it a try with your own fun and whimsical Christmas scene.

Thanks so much for stopping by and happy crafting!

These are the “cutest”….as you say, once in a while the “cuteness” bug does get ahold of us…LOL…great use of the dies….

I love those gingerbread cookies too. I still have a pile of those cookies made up. Went overboard because I loved them so much. Looks like time to break them out again. thanks as always for sharing.
