New Year Handmade Card

New Year Handmade Card

I created the car using the Tim Holtz Home for The Holidays die set. I used Kraft-Core cardstock to create the red part of the car. The woodgrain section was created using the Tammy Tutterow Designs Big Woodgrain background stamp. I stamped the image onto a piece of Neenah Solar White 110 lb. cardstock in Potting Soil Archival Ink. I then inked on Vintage Photo Distress Ink over the entire piece. From that piece, I cut the doors and side panels of the car. The bumper pieces are cut from white cardstock and colored with a Brushed Pewter Distress Crayon. Can you guess what die I used to create the people inside the car? If you guessed the Tim Holtz Trick or Treat die set, then you’re correct! I cut the trick-or-treaters out of black cardstock and cut away their Halloween costumes around their heads. I chose two of them that I liked and placed them behind the car. If you see seasonal dies and think you’ll never use them enough to justify the purchase, I think I proved you wrong. Haha How’s that for enabling?

To create the sky, I used the My Favorite Things Cloud stencil and Tumbled Glass Distress Ink. Create the clouds by beginning at the top of the cardstock and using gentle circle strokes, go just over the edges of the design. Next, move downward rotating the die one turn to the left as you move down the paper. For the highway, I used the Tim Holtz Brushstrokes stamp set and stamped one of the images with Watering Can Archival Ink. I created the lines on the highway by using a Tim Holtz Ruler and a white paint pen.

To create the hills in the background under the clouds and above the highway, I cut the hill die from the Tim Holtz Home for The Holidays die set out of piece of cardstock that is the same size as the entire background panel.

I tape the top piece just under the clouds as shown above and I tape the bottom piece turned around just below the top of the highway image. I ink that section with Vintage Photo Distress Archival Ink.

I take away the two masks and ink the bottom of the scene being very careful not to go over the highway too much or the white lines and this completes the background scene for my card.

To complete the card, I create a couple of trees from the Home for The Holidays die set with two different shades of Kraft-Core green cardstock and ink the edges with Ground Espresso Distress ink. I add them just below the hills. I create some balloons from the Tim Holtz Crazy Things die set in various colors of Kraft-Core cardstock and ink the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink. I create 2018 from the Tim Holtz 3/4 Inch Tall Alphanumeric Thinlits dies in both black and white cardstock. I offset the black numbers over the white numbers to create a shadow to give them depth. I use burlap string for the balloon strings and wrap the bottoms of the string under the hood of the car and secure it with multi matte medium. I add a couple of Tim Holtz Small Talk sentiments with 3M foam tape. The trees, car and balloons are all adhered to the card with 3M foam tape to give nice dimension to the scene. I adhere the main panel onto a piece of Neenah Desert Storm cardstock and then onto a piece of Simon Says Stamp Black cardstock and my card is done.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created this fun card to end out the 2017 year of Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenges. I want to wish you all a very Happy New Year and wish all the best for each and every one of you! Who knows what the new year will bring? Enjoy the ride!

Don’t forget you have two weeks to join this challenge and you could win a $50 gift voucher to Simon’s amazing store.
