Theodore – Child’s Room Home Decor

Hi Everyone! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season with family and friends. I can’t believe it’s already 2020 and another year has swiftly past by. If you caught Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 1 release Facebook Live yesterday, you may have seen my sweet children’s home decor piece I made with the adorable Theodore die set. I not only have grandchildren that I like to create things for but I am a kid at heart. There is a little whimsy in almost everything I create. Sometimes so small that it’s hard to see but I know it’s there. I guess I just can’t help it. I created this piece with earthy tones but in the future I plan to create some very colorful pieces using Theodore so stay tuned. I hope you enjoy this project and I’ll try to explain as best I can how I put it all together.

Theodore - Child's Home Decor Piece

Theodore - Step 1

I begin by painting one of the Tim Holtz Idea-ology vignette boxes with Antique Linen Distress Paint and let that completely dry. Next, I cut out and adhere random letters from the Tim Holtz Alphanumeric Tiny Type lower and upper case die set to the top and sides of the vignette box using collage matte medium. When it is completely dry, I apply another coat of collage matte medium over the entire box. To add some depth, I go over the letters and grains of the wood with a little Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso Distress Crayons and rub it into the groves of the letters and grains of the wood. I dip my fingertip lightly into some water to move the pigments around and to get it into the groves around the letter and grains of the wood. When I’m pleased with the way it looks, I allow the box to completely dry.

Theodore - Step 2

Next, I assemble Theodore out of classic kraft stock cardstock in shades of brown. Before cutting each piece I go over the cardstock with sandpaper. I organize all my pieces according to the order of assembly but I can tell you Theodore is very easy to put together and won’t take much time at all for you to see him come to life. I’m completely in love with the colorize line not only because they are pure genius but because each character comes to life as you build it. After adhering him to the vignette box, I add a small piece of crochet to resemble grass that I cut from the new Crochet 2 die set. This is also cut from kraft stock cardstock. I create a small bouquet of flowers using the Funky Florals 3 die set and place them in his hand.

Theodore - Step 4

The sun is from the new Circle Play die set and cut out of kraft stock cardstock also. I create two center circles because he is nestled in between a piece of wire that pops up out of the vignette box.

Theodore - Step 5

I can’t tell you how much fun I had putting this piece together. Theodore is a die set that has completely captured my heart as have all the colorize sets. Look at his adorable face and tell me you can’t stop smiling from ear to ear!?!
