Hi Friends! Wow, has it been a month. In January I went on a mountain hike with a couple of my children and returned with a fractured wrist. With the help of my Occupational Therapist I’m getting back into crafting slow and steady. It’s been a challenge but I’m one of those that truly believes something good always comes out of suffering. We learn something new about ourselves and we grow in compassion and empathy for others. Enough of that ……. onward. I’m back with my Distress Mixology Series and finding the exercises I’m allowed to do with my hand are perfect for creating backgrounds. I decided to use Distress Paints and Archival Inks for this background. I don’t have step-by-steps for this but I will walk you through it the best I can. Let’s begin.

*** I used a full size piece of Distress White Heavystock to create one large panel that I will use to make four card panels.***
Start by squeezing small drops of Kitsch Flamingo Distress Paint all over the heavystock. Next, use the medium brayer to spread the paint over the entire piece but allow some white to remain in the background. Allow this first layer to completely dry before moving on to the next paint color.
Continue to add paint. Use the lightest paint and work up to the darkest. Apply the paint by squeezing a bit on to a craft mat and pick it up with the a small brayer. Use small, short strokes with the brayer to apply the colors in random areas. Remember to apply one color at a time and completely dry each layer before moving on to the next.
Now that all the paint colors have been applied and you are pleased with the outcome it is time to start adding some stenciling. Choose a variety of mixed-media-themed stencils and begin adding them in random areas with varying colors of Distress Archival Inks. I applied these inks by going over the stencils with my Simon Says Stamp Ink Blending Tools.
Next, add some mixed-media-themed stamps in random areas of the background. I used the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stamp set CMS489, called Deconstructed and stamped them on with Black Soot Archival Ink.
To finish the background, stencil on some more mixed media themed designs with Distress Texture Paste and you’re done.
I hope you enjoyed this bsackground and that you give it a try with Ranger’s Distress Paints and Archival Inks, Thanks for stopping by.
