Hi friends! I didn’t want to miss out on Christmas in July so I created a beautiful and dreamy snow scene with the new Distress Speckled Egg color. I love blue and silver together for a classy Christmas and each year I create a card in that color scheme. The background is a collection of mixed media techniques that I’m sure you’ve seen many times before but I put together a tutorial to show you how I created this one. Enjoy!
To begin, cover a piece of heavy cardstock with Distress Collage Medium, lay a piece of Tim Holtz Holly collage paper on top and apply another layer of Distress Collage Medium over the top of the collage paper.
Smooth out the collage paper over the cardstock and after it dries, cut away the excess from the edges.
Next, add the Tim Holtz Sparkle stencil in random areas using grit paste and allow to completely dry.
When the grit paste is completely dry, apply crackle texture paste to the top left and bottom right edges. Allow this to completely dry.
Cover the holly leaves and text with a light coat of white gesso and allow it to completely dry.
Spray the piece with Distress Speckled Egg Spray Stain and spritz with water allowing the ink to drip down the piece. Allow to dry. Next, spray the piece with Distress Speckled Egg Oxide along with a little spritz of water and holding the piece up, allow it to drip. When you are pleased with where the sprays dripped and how the piece looks, dry completely.
Remove the cap from the Distress Brushed Pewter Spray Stain and drip along the top left edge of the piece. Spritz with water, hold the piece upright and allow the ink to drip down the piece.
Allow the Brushed Pewter spray to drip down slightly, not all the way down the piece.
Repeat the same process as above on the right bottom edge as shown above. When the spray stain is completely dry, apply Distress Brushed Pewter Crayon over the crackled areas to bring out the cracks.
To add sparkle, spray the entire piece with Distress Resist Spray and sprinkle with Distress Rock Candy Dry Glitter.
Allow to completely dry and admire all that beautiful sparkly goodness!
Allow your piece to completely dry while you create the snowflake for the project.
Cut the two snowflakes from the Tim Holtz Stunning Snowflake die set. I cut both sizes but only ended up using the largest one. I cut them out of white cardstock and then another set out of silver metallic cardstock.
Spray the white cardstock snowflakes with Distress Resist Spray and sprinkle with Distress Rock Candy Dry Glitter.
To complete the card, I adhered mixed media stones colored with Speckled Egg Distress Ink, tiny mixed media stones left in their original state and a couple of Tim Holtz Baubles. The silver baubles were covered in glossy accents, sprinkled with Rock Candy Dry Glitter and spritzed with Brushed Pewter Distress Spray Stain. To finish it off, I added a few silver enamel dots. I adhered the main card panel to a distressed piece of silver metallic cardstock and then adhered that to a 5′ x 7″ piece of desert storm cardstock that was sprayed with Speckled Egg Distress Oxide Spray.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put this card together. Thanks so much for stopping by. I really appreciate you spending your time with me.
Really like the Icy Blue of the Speckled Egg with the contrast of the Silver…I would need to change out the Baubles for something else as the majority of my cards are mailed and not hand delivered…but I do love it…
