Creating Fun Card Backgrounds

Hi friends! Today I’m sharing I card I created using some of the new stamps from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous. This new release has something for everyone. Flower stamp lover….check. Grunge stamp lover…..check. This tutorial is a short one to show you how easy it is to put a card together when you have the perfect little bits and pieces to create a beautiful background. Enjoy!

Creating the Background

.

I first cut a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of mixed media heavystock and colored it with Spiced Marmalade, Victorian Velvet and Scattered Straw Distress Watercolor pencils. (To learn how to create backgrounds with Distress watercolor pencils check out Jen Shurkus’ (Creative Chick) Watercolor Pencil Online Class. Here’s the link.)

Next, I stamped several bit and pieces from the Tidbits and Deconstructed stamp sets using various colors of Distress alcohol inks.

.

The next step to my background was to add a couple of stencils. I rubbed the Rusty Hinge Distress ink pad on the mini Spots stencil, spritzed it generously with water and then laid it on the background on the top and bottom corners. Rub it a bit with your fingertips to allow the ink to move a bit and to soak into the cardstock.

Next, I used the same technique with the mini Sticks stencil using Fossilized Amber Distress Ink and my background was complete. You could create so many of these in several different colors for your stash so that next time you need a quick card you can pull out one of these backgrounds, add a few main pieces and a sentiment and you’re done!
