It’s that time again! Time for another fun challenge on the Simon Says Stamp Monday Challenge. This week’s theme is, Home Sweet Home. The first thing that came to mind for me was a whimsical setting with an adorable little house, some butterflies and a little bird. I wanted the background to be simple but contain doodles and light stamping to fit the whimsical look that I had in mind. I hope you enjoy seeing how I put together my project and that you get a little inspiration for your next project. Enjoy!
Don’t forget to check out our amazing guest designer this month, Dr. Sonia. Her projects have been jaw dropping. You won’t want to miss seeing what she’s creating, so pop on over to her blog and get some awesome inspiration and leave some love.
To begin the background, I cut a 5″ x 7″ piece of canvas paper and begin applying Dina Wakley white gesso in random areas going from both top to bottom and left to right.
When the gesso is completely dry, I apply Dina Wakley Lime and White Media Heavy Body Acrylic Paint to the bottom portion of the canvas paper using a dry paintbrush. I allow that to completely dry.
On the top portion of the canvas paper, I apply Sky and White heavy body acrylic paint in random areas in top and bottom and left and right streaks with a dry paintbrush. I allow that to completely dry.
I add a bit of stamping using the Tim Holtz Script background stamp in random areas in Potting Soil Archival Ink. I want a light stamping so I use the second generation stamping technique to get a soft and light image.
Now that the ink is completely dry, I begin to add some doodling. I draw some random lines up and down, left and right with a Paper Mate black gel pen.
Next, I add some swirls in random areas using the same black gel pen.
I add some clouds with the splatter stamp from the Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamp set with PaperArtsy Snowflake Fresco Finish Paint.
To create the house for the project, I use the largest house from the Tim Holtz Artful Dwellings Movers and Shapers Die and cut that out from Neenah Solar White 110 lb. card stock.
I draw some lines on the sides of the house so when I cut them away, the house will have a whimsical look.
I cut away the sides of the house.
Next, I cut away the roof from the body of the house.
I want the house to have texture so I pounce on some Dina Wakley White Gesso using the largest of her stiff bristled paintbrushes. I set that aside to completely air dry.
To create the roof, I ink the top half of the house that I cut away from the body of the house with Black Soot Distress Ink. I also create a scalloped piece using the Simon Says Stamp Stitched Scallops die set.
I cut the scalloped piece a bit longer than the bottom of the roof and doodle on some swirls with a black gel pen.
I want some light circles on the roof, so I stamp on the dotted stamp from the Tim Holtz Bitty Grunge stamp set with Broken China Distress Oxide ink.
When the inks are completely dry, I circle the dots with a white gel pen and attach the scallop piece to the bottom of the roof.
Now that the bottom of the house is completely dry, I begin to color it using Dina Wakley Magenta paint using a dry paintbrush. I allow that to completely dry before adding the next color.
Next, I apply some Dina Wakley Lemon and Tangerine paint in random areas over the Magenta paint and allow that to completely dry.
Next, I add some harsh Ruby red lines to the house. I set that aside to completely dry.
To complete the house, I dry brush some Dina Wakley White Gesso over the entire house and remove some of it in random areas with a baby wipe. I do this to lighten up the bright colors of the house. I stamp on some circles from the Bitty Grunge stamp set in Black Soot Archival Ink and doodle on some designs to the top and middle of the house with a black gel pen. I create a door from black card stock stamped with the numbers stamp from the Tim Holtz Etcetera stamp set and I stamp that on with white paint.
To complete my project, I stamp some flowers in the background and paint them with Dina Wakley paints, add a cute little bird from the PaperArtsy Jofy15 stamp set and some birds in flight from the EDY10 stamp set. I stamp some butterflies from the PaperArtsy EKC02 stamp set, colored them and fussy cut them out so I could attach them to the scene in 3D form.To finish it off, I write, peace, love, home on the canvas with a black gel pen and draw vertical and horizontal lines around the words to draw attention to them.
