Hi Friends! It’s time to kick off all the fun with Simon Says Stamp’s STAMPtember 2022 blog party celebration!! If you’re not familiar with STAMPtember, it’s a month of fun filled stamping excitement and releases. There are exclusive releases and collaborations that Simon puts together with many of your favorite stamping companies, new exclusive Simon Says Stamp products and a few surprises sprinkled in along the way. You’ll want to check in each day because you never know what they’ve got up their sleve and you don’t want to miss out on all the fun.

To kick off the celebration, each blog party designer will have a coupon code for you. So make sure you check out all of the designers who are participating because they will each have their own code. It’s kind of like a scavanger hunt and you won’t want to miss out on any special deals. Some of the designers will have a code for a free item and others will have a code for a free item when a minimum dollar amount is purchased. You can find the list of designers here. My special surpise is for an exclusive Orchid purple Mesh Zipper Bag absolutely free with any purchase!! I have several of these bags and they are wonderful for keeping supplies together when you’re working on several different projects. They’re sturdy and see-through, which is a huge plus because you can see what’s inside with a quick glance. They’re also great for traveling when you want to take some art supplies along with you! Make sure to use the coupon code D37LM8A5 at checkout for your free Orchid purple Mesh Zipper Bag. All the details are in the graphic below.

Now, on to my project using the beautiful Simon Says Stamp exclusive Black-Eyed Susans stamp set.

I’ve prepared a full tutorial for this card in case you’re interested. Let’s begin.

Begin by stamping the smaller arrangement of black-eyed susans from the stamp set on Arches Cold Pressed watercolor paper. This is a higher end watercolor paper but well worth the money. Stamp the image with Distress embossing ink and sprinkle on Ranger black embossing powder over the ink. Melt the embossing powder with a heat tool and allow to completely cool and dry.

Next, color the image. I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers in Deep Brown (No. 068), Light Brown (No. 061) and Mid Green (No. 046). Along with the markers, I used a Ranger Detailer Water Brush.

Using a pencil, create an equal distanced edge around the image so it is easy to cut out.

Cut around the image following the pencil lines. Using a Tim Holtz Snips Scissors makes it so easy. When finished, erase any pencil marks that remain.

Cut a 4-5/8″ x 6-5/8″ piece of Arches water color paper. Spray Pumice Stone Distress Spray Stain onto a craft mat and spritz the stain with water. Spritz the water color paper with a bit of water and run it through the Pumice Stone spray stain and water mixture that’s on the craft mat. Continue this process until you are happy with the outcome. Remember to dry each layer before picking up more color from the craft mat. Make sure to dry the panel completely before moving on to the next step.

Shake a bottle of Fossilized Amber Distress Oxide Spray to release the pigment from the bottom of the bottle and then remove the cap. Allow the pigment to drip off the bottom of the sprayer tube onto the card front in random places.

Spritz the droplets of Fossilized Amber Oxide with water and dry with a heat tool. When it’s completely dry, splatter on Black Soot Distress Paint over the entire panel with a splatter brush and allow to completely dry.

When the panel is completely dry, ink the edges with Black Soot Distress Oxide.

The next step requires a stamping platform of some kind. Lay the card panel in the corner of the stamping tool and secure with magnets. To create a background behind the main focal point which will be the black-eyed susans, lay the three long brushstroke stamps from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Brushstrokes stamp set (CMS293) in the center of the panel. Close the door of the stamping tool to pick up the stamps and ink the stamps with Black Soot Distress Oxide. Transfer the images onto the card front. You will probably have to do this several times because of the texture of the Arches Cold Press watercolor paper.

Just as I thought, the texture of the watercolor paper prevented the stamps to make a complete image transfer so I filled in the areas that needed a little help with Black Soot Distress Paint using a paint brush. Allow this to completely dry.

To add more interest to the background, I gather a few round objects that I have collected over the years from around the house and dip them in Black Soot Distress Paint. Don’t worry if the circles don’t transfer perfectly. It actually looks better if they don’t. Allow this to completely dry before moving on to the next step.

Making sure the circles are completely dry, you can now paint the center of a few of them. Use a small paintbrush with a tiny tip for better control. I used Fossilized Amber and Picket Fence Distress Paint as shown above. As always, allow the paint to completely dry before moving on to the next step.

For the final step in creating the background, stamp a few of the stitches stamps from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Stitches set (CMS365) along the edges with Black Soot Distress Oxide.

Color one of the bumble bees from the Black-Eyed Susans stamp set and cut it out using the same method as the flowers. The sentiment is from the same stamp set that was stamped onto a piece of Simon Says Stamp Black cardstock with Distress Embossing Ink, sprinkled with Ranger White embossing powder and melted with a heat tool. When the embossing powder is completely cooled and dry, cut around the sentiment with a snippet scissors.

To complete the card, cut a 4-7/8″ x 6-7/8″ piece of Simon Says Stamp Sunshine cardstock and adhere it onto a 5-1/4″ x 7-1/4″ piece of Simon Says Stamp Black cardstock. Adhere the card front on to of the sunshine cardstock using 3D foam tape to give the card some dimension. Using 3D foam square or tape, adhere the black-eyed susans cut out colored image to the center of the card panel along with the sentiment and tiny bumble bee that also comes with the set. Add a little burlap string under the side of the sentiment for some added texture and the card is done.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put this card together and that you’ll check out all the other designers who are participating in the STAMPtember 2022 blog party. Don’t forget to check out Simon Says Stamp every day throughout the month to see all the exclusive sets from all the different companies for this year’s STAMPtember event.
