Hello friends! Today I’m sharing what I created using the Distress Mixology No. 3 palette. It’s a beautiful combination of greens and purples. The Distress colors I used are Bundled Sage, Shabby Shutters, Dusty Concord, Seedless Preserves and Villianous Potion. If you want to see the results of all the experiemnts I completed using this combination, see my blog pot here.
I find that using these color palette combinations with dies are my favorite way to come up with something to create. I could use them as backgrounds but it’s a bit more challenging and fun to see what I can come up with using dies. I usually create a quick background that coordinates with the dies I’ve cut and that’s exactly what I did for this project. See below for a full tutorial.
By creating a background using the lighter colors of the palette, Bundled Sage and Shabby Shutters, I was able to cut the gentlemen out of my experiement result cardstock pieces making them pop against the background. I’ll show you how I put it all together. Let’s being.
I chose to make a background using Bundled Sage and Shabby Shutter Distress Spray Stains and Oxides. This created a light background that made the die cut pieces pop. For the stamped images I used Villianous Potion, Peeled Paint, Seedless Preserves and Forest Moss Distress Inks. I chose to use the Distress Inks because as I was creating the background I didn’t care if the images became a little distored if they were hit with water, I actually l like that. If you want your images to stay clear and crisp, use Distress Archival Inks instead.
I chose Stampers Anonymous stamp sets Eccentric (CSM448) and The Inspector (CMS465) for my background images.
I chose various images from the two stamp sets and stamped them in different ink colors in random areas.
I added a bit of stenciling between the stamped images. I didn’t want the stenciling to cover any of the stamps so I created a barrier using torn notebook paper. By tearing the edges of the notebook paper before laying them on top of my background, I was able to get more of an organic look instead of one where the stencils turned out with straight lines along the edges.
I followed the same process for all the stenciling that I wanted to apply to the background.
After finishing all the stenciling, I allowed the background to completely dry before moving on to the next step.
When the grit paste used for the stenciling was completely dry, I applied Black Soot Distress Crayon pigment between the pattern of the stencil and smoothed it out with a water brush.
To create the gentlemen, I cut two of them from a couple of the Distress Mixology No. 3 experiement pieces and the third from black cardstock. I inked on a script image to all three using Picket Fence Distress Ink and Black Soot Distress Archival Ink.
To finish the card, I adhered the gentlemen to the center bottom of the card front. The gentleman cut out of black cardstock was adhered using 3D foam pieces to give some dimension. I added a few pieces of Idea-ology, a bit of burlap string and a sentiment to finish it off.
I hope you enjoyed Distress Mixology No. 3’s inspiration. If you’re following along and creating something with these color palettes, I’d love to hear from you!
Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end. I appreciate the time you spend here with me!
