Hi friends! Today I’m sharing a birthday card I created using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Celebrate die set. I used the dies in a different way and made a sweet card for someone whose favorite treat is ice cream. I’ve put together a short tutorial below. Enjoy!
The Celebrate die set comes with several dies to create fun birthday cards or any card where the theme is celebrate. I used the party hat and balloons in the set to create a fun ice cream cone. I’ll show you how below.
Creating the Background
I cut a 4.5″ X 6.5″ piece of white mixed media cardstock and applied the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Brush Arch stencil onto the center of the card with Distress Grit Paste. After applying the paste, I sprinkled on several different coordinating colors of Distress Embossing Glaze in Twisted Citron, Salvaged Patina, Cracked Pistachio and Broken China. After I was finished sprinkling on the embossing glazes I lifted the cardstock and tappede it with my fingertips from below to get the powder to jump around and mix with each other. I then removed the excess powder and dried it with a heat tool. Typically you would want the grit paste to dry before setting it with heat, but I wanted a bubbly look to my stenciled image so I used a heat tool right away to set the glaze.
Here is a close-up of the end result. See how it’s bumpy and bubbly. I know most crafters don’t like that outcome but for this card this is exactly what I wanted. It’s a tricky process because if you heat it too much it will completely dry out and crack off and crumble. Knowing when to stop the heating process is key for this technique. The trick is that as soon as the paste begins to bubble in the area you’re heating immediately stop and move to another section.
Die Pieces to Use for Ice Cream Cone
To create the ice cream cone, I used one of the party hat designs in the Celebrate die set. I used some brown cardstock that I had inked earlier. For the balloons, I used two round and one oblong balloon and for the drippy chocolate on the ice cream scoops I used the birthday cake icing die piece. To make the drippy ice cream on the ice cream scoops, cut the shape out and then adhere it to the ballon. Next, just cut the excess drips from the perimeter of the balloon.
To finish the card I created a few of the confetti and sparkle die pieces out of coordinating inked cardstock and adhered them in random areas. I stamped on the “make a wish” sentiment from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Note Quotes stamp set. I adhered the card front to a piece of lime cardstock and then onto a white base.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put this card together and that it helped you see another way to use this die. Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end. I appreciate the time you spend here with me.
