Let’s Talk About Scissors

Hi friends! I’m sure by now you’ve hear the news that Tim Holtz and Tonic have released a brand new set of recoil (spring-loaded) scissors. I was extremely excited about the news for a very particular reason but there are so many reasons to love these scissors. Below I’ll take you through the top 10 reason why I love them so much counting down to my absolute favorite #1 reason. Enjoy!

Countdown to the #1 Reason Why I Love The New Tim Holtz Tonic Spring-Loaded Scissors

#10 – Fits Everyone

These scissors fit both left and right handed people.

#9 – Cuts Like Butter

These scissors cut wrapping paper like a hot knife through butter. Making straight lines when cutting wrapping paper can be difficult especially if it’s a cheaper quality wrapping paper. These scissors make it so easy to make a perfect slice every time.

#8 – No Pinch Feature

These scissors have a feature that stops the scissor handles from completely closing (or touching each other) which prevents the skin on the inside of your hand from getting pinched.

#7 – Locking Mechanism

Each of the scissors has a locking mechanism. I like this feature because while I’m working I stop for various reasons and put the scissors down on my desk. When I do this, I make sure to lock them because the edges of the blades are extremely sharp. If I happen to be haphazardly trying to find something on my desk while I’m working without carefully looking where I’m feeling around, (which I often do), I won’t come across the blades by mistake and get a nasty cut.

#6 – Two Spring Tensions

These scissors come with two spring tensions that can be switched out. The regular tension spring is great for those with arthritis or an injured hand. One doesn’t need to apply much pressure at all to work with the scissors. The high tension spring is great for those who love spring-loaded scissors but don’t need to be too concerned about light application of pressure because of arthritis or injury. Of course, the high tension spring is going to spring back a tad bit faster which in turn enables you to cut faster than the regular tension spring but the difference in speed is not noticeable.

#5 – Comfort Grip

The large scissor has a comfort grip handle so your fingers can relax while cutting. The handle is soft and flexible and the grip is formed to fit all your fingers in a comfortable and natural position.

#4 – Plastic Cover

Each set comes with a plastic cover which keep the blades in pristine condition. The smaller scissor has a very sharp and pointed tip so when you put them away, face down, the point won’t get dullened. The point on the tip plays a significant role in my #1 one reason for loving them so much so I want them to stay in perfect condition and the plastic cover helps do just that.

#3 – Smooth Cut Edge

These scissors cut a nice smooth edge. I use the smaller size to do a lot of fussy cutting and one thing I hate is when the scissors leave a jagged edge to my straight cuts. I know it depends on the paper you’re cutting, but I’ve used these scissors to cut all different type and grades of paper and the edges turn out smooth each and every time. (Look at those smooth edges on the No. 7!)

#2 – Pointed & Sharp Tip on Snip Scissor

The pointed and sharp tip on the small snip scissor is perfect for detail cutting, rounded corners and intricate patterns. I can get those tips in the tiniest of places and just snip away a little at a time making the perfect cut in the tightest places of the image.

And the #1 Reason I Love These Scissors So Much – Fussy Cut for Hours!

For those with arthritis and who love to fussy cut will probably understand where I’m coming from on this one. I don’t have arthritis but years ago I injured my hand. The top part of my right hand was injured which resulted in nerve damage. Since the injury, if I want to write letters, paint for long periods of time or fussy cut (which I love to do), I have to take breaks because my hand starts to lose feeling and mobility. It’s a bit different than arthritis in that my hand doesn’t get stiff and the joints don’t hurt. The center of my hand, where the injury occurred, begins to tighten and send shooting pain to my fingertips. I usually have to stop for a while or pick up the next day. It has gotten worse over the years so I was excited to see if these scissors made a different in the duration in which I could fussy cut and I noticed a remarkable difference. I spent about an hour cutting all the numbers from the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Paint By Number stamp set. I stamped them out with black archival ink on scraps of white mixed media heavystock and began cutting them out. With a regular scissor I would have had to stop after number 4 or 5 but I was able to keep going without any paint shooting through my fingertips. I didn’t have to stop and massage my hand! I just kept cutting away, listening to podcasts until I was finished – from 0 – 9!! I was so happy because I’ve avoided fussy cutting over the last year because of the pain.

Well, there you have it. The top10 reasons why I love these scissors so much.

Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end. I really appreciate the time you spend here with me. If you’re interested in purchasing these scissors you can find them at Simon Says Stamp. Click on the links below.

I still would like to have “left-handed” versions. While the handles do fit both right and left hands, the cutting edge is still that of a right-handed scissors.
