The Journey Awakens The Soul

Rest and Refresh Collection

Hi Everyone! I’m here today with another amazing release from Simon Says Stamp. The Rest & Refresh collection is their newest release and filled with so much awesomeness! I was privileged to work with the Anchor Tag die. For my project, I decided to show you how you can really use just about any type of die and create a mixed media project. The design of this anchor is one of my favorites and I hope you enjoy seeing how I created this pretty card along with some Tim Holtz goodies.

Simon Says Stamp Anchor Tag Die Mixed Media Handmade Card

Simon Says Stamp Anchor Tag Die Mixed Media Handmade Card - Steps

To begin, I cut a piece of Tim Holtz paper from the Memoranda Paper Stash using the Stitched Rectangles die. I distressed the edges and sprayed the cardstock with  Tumbled Glass Distress Spray and a bit of Vintage Photo. I dried the piece with a heat tool and set it aside to dry.

Next, I cut the Anchor Tag die out of watercolor paper and set the pop out anchor piece aside. I sprayed Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo Oxides onto the Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat and sprayed them with a little water. I sprayed the tag portion of the Anchor Tag die with water and ran it through the pigments on the glass media mat picking up color and drying each layer in between until I was happy with the outcome. I then stamped the tag with the screen image from the Stampers Anonymous Ultimate Grunge stamp set (CMS075) and spritzed the piece with water to blend the screen image into the background.

I cut out two more anchors from the die out of heavy cardstock and layered them together to create a strong and sturdy anchor for my card. After gluing the anchors together, I covered the entire piece with Ranger Grit Paste and inked the edges very lightly with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. I added texture using cheesecloth dyed with Tumbled Glass and Vintage Photo Distress Spray. I adhered the cheesecloth in between the printed cardstock piece and the tag with a sewing machine.  I adhered the anchor on top of the open anchor cut out with Ranger Multi Matte Medium. My sentiment is a Tim Holtz Word Band adhered to the center of the card and accompanied with twine and a couple of screw tops. I added a metal star over the anchor to hide the string hole. I adhered the entire panel to Desert Storm and Simon Says Stamp Dark Chocolate cardstock pieces to give it a layered look.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I used the Simon Says Stamp Anchor Tag die to create this beautiful mixed media card and that you’ll stop on over to Simon and take a look at the rest of their amazing Rest & Refresh release. Thanks so much for stopping by!

  1. Love the colors. Blues, greens , turquoise etc are beautiful but the copper and patina colors you used are true-to-life. Water rusts and pits metal as it ages … that’s the feel you created. Wonderful! N
