Distress Mixology No. 6 Inspiration – Christmas

Hi friends! I’m back today with inspiration for my Distress Mixology No. 6 experiments. If you want to check out what I used for the latest Distress Mixology and what I created you can find all the experiments here.

Below I’ve created two Christmas tags and one Christmas card from my experiments. It’s really a fun collection of three different styles and I had so much fun making them. I hope you find some inspiration in these makes and that it sparks a little mixology of your very own. Enjoy!

Chosing to use just Distress Crayons for my experiments wouldn’t be completely true. I did use Distress Grit Paste as part of the mixture and what I did is used them with the newest Christmas stencils from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous. These colors are beautiful all on their own if you pull the three crayons that come together in the packages but I wanted to unwrap them and mix them all up.

My first combination was Unravelled, Ominous Twighlight and Phantom Mist. These are not typical Christmas colors and I was totally fine with that. I think the standard red and green is a tried and true classic and it will always be around but what about this combination for Christmas. Christmas? Yes, Christmas.

I love the way this one turned out. I think the colors bring on an icy look that is so pretty. I used the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Winter Woodlands (CMS476) stamp set for this tag. I stamped on a few of the images on the tag with Black Soot Archival Ink and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Next, I wrapped some twine with a few Idea-ology pieces onto the side of the tag. For the tree, I stamped it in Speckled Egg Distress Ink. I wanted to add Distress Rock Candy to the tree so I stamped it with sticky embossing powder and then sprinkled on the rock candy. It really sparkles but you can’t see its beautiful sparkle very well in the photo. I fussy cut the tree, inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and adhered it to the side of the tag using 3D foam squares. I stamped the Christmas Trees label that comes with the stamp set on mixed media heavystock in Black Soot Distress Archival Ink and cut out the image with straight and wavy edges. I then inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and adhered it underneath the tree with 3D foam squares. The star is one of Tim’s mirrored stars from Idea-ology that I inked with Alchemy alcohol pearl ink and let it completely dry. When it was dry I sprayed it with Distress Resist Spray and sprinkled on Distress Rock Candy. Again, the photo doesn’t show it’s true sparkly beauty. I added some vintage ribbon to the top and the tag is done!

My next combination was Juniper Berry, Wonderland and Frost Mint. Again, another out of the ordinary Christmas color scheme but I love it!

This tag was created using the new Festive Print (CMS472) stamp set from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous. I decided to use the background just as is not adding any stamping. I stamped the houses from the stamp set in Chipped Sapphire, Lucky Clover and Unchartered Mariner Distress Ink and fussy cut them. I colored the windows and doors with a marker and then I decided I wanted them to sparkle so I used the same technique to add Distress Rock Candy to each piece. I used the same process with the trees, moon, stars and snow. I stamped the sentiment “Winter Wishes” that come with the same stamp set onto white heavystock in Cracked Pistachio and then inked the edges of the each word stamp with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and stamped again. I cut them out and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and adhered them to the tag. To finish the tag, I added some vintage ribbon to the top and this second tag is done!

.

The last color combination was a traditional Christmas colored one with Yuletide and Specimen, the tried and true red and green and it really did not disappoint. I loved the outcome.

Just because I created a tag doesn’t mean I have to keep it a tag, right? I love how this turned out. All I did to the tag from the experiment was ink the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink, I added a few pieces of ephemera and mounted the main piece onto layers of printed papers from the Tim Holtz Christmas paper stash collections from years past. A Christmas mini flair hides the hole from the tag and my card is done!

I hope you enjoyed this edition of Distress Mixology and that you come up with some combinations from the Distress Holiday Crayon sets of your own. If you do, please let me know. I’d love to see what you create!

Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end. I really appreciate the time you spend here with my on my blog.
