Hi friends! I hope you’re all having a good week. Today I’m sharing a card I created using the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Lovestruck, Stacked Tile Hearts and Simple Plaid die sets. I’ll show you this simple background that looks like it took forever to create, but it didn’t. Enjoy!
There are only a few steps to creating this background so let’s get started.
Begin by cutting a 5″ x 7″ piece of mixed media heavystock. Apply a thin layer of collage medium over the heavystock and immediately apply your collage paper. Apply another thin layer of collage medium over the collage paper and allow it to completely dry. You can speed up the process by using a heat tool. Next, dry brush a thin layer of white gesso over the entire panel making sure not to add too much. You want the design of your collage paper to peek through. Allow to completely dry.
While your main card panel is drying, cut (2) Simple Plaid designs out of mixed media heavystock and tear into pieces.
Apply a thin layer of collage medium over the center area of the card panel and place the torn plaid die cut pieces on top. Now apply another thin layer of collage medium over the die cut pieces and allow the entire panel to competely dry.
When the panel is completely dry, Spray Stormy Sky Distress Spray Stain on the bottom of the panel and then Speckled Egg over the top portion of the panel. Allow the colors to run into each other by applying a mist of water. Dry with a heat tool.
Now add strips of decorative tape or washi tape to random areas of the panel. Adhere with collage medium and allow to completely dry.
When the panel is completely dry, apply Black Soot Distress Crayon pigment to the edges of the decorative tape and smudge in with your fingertip. Allow the pigment to dry.
Lastly, I edged the card panel with Black Soot Distress Paint and inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink.
The main focal point is the two hearts from the Lovestruck die set. I created them by spraying pieces of mixed media heavystock with Fired Brick and Aged Mahogany Distress Spray Stains then with Candied Apple Distress Oxide.
To finish the card, I adhered the two Lovestruck hearts to the top center of the card. I created a border with the Tim Holtz Sizzix Decorative Trims die. I cut the trim from mixed media cardstock that was inked with Hickory Smoke Distress Ink and Distress Oxide. I cut the arrow out of gold metallic cardstock inked with mushroom alcohol ink. I did cut the arrow down a bit by snipping off the feather portion and reapplying it to the arrow in the length I needed. I rubbed some Hickory Smoke Distress Crayon pigment into the metal sentiment, attached it to the arrow and adherd that over the decorative strip. I created three tiny hearts from the Stacked Tiles Hearts die set and attached them to the card. I adhered the main card panel to a piece of Simon Says Stamp Schoolhouse Red cardstock and that panel onto a piece of Simon Says Stamp Black cardstock and the card is done.
I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put together this card. Thank you so much for sticking with me to the end. I appreciate you spending your time here with me! Have a wonderful rest of your week!
