Easy Stencil Backgrounds

Hi Friends! I’m here today with a tutorial on how to create this beautiful stenciled background. I’m using the new Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous stencils, Linked Circles and Focus. I used both the regular size and mini size of each of these sets. The background is creatred using alcohol inks and takes some time to dry so sit tight and join me below as I walk you through the process. Enjoy!

Begin by placing a gel press plate on your glass mat and place the stencils on the top of the plate in any configuration.

Sprinkle on any alcohol ink colors of your choice over the designs of the stencil. I chose Ranger Ink Purple Twilight, Pool, Dijon and Cool Peri.

Next, sprinkle alcohol blending solution over the alcohol inks so they mix and blend together. Leave this sitting until all the inks and blending solution are completely dry.

When everything is completely dry, pull off the stencils and set them aside. (Note: Don’t worry about permanently stained stencils. The inks can easily be removed with 91% isoprophyl alcohol which can be purchased very cheaply at any drug store. )

After pulling all the stencils off of the gel plate, apply a bit of white acrylic paint over top as shown above.

Using a brayer, spread the white paint over the entire surface of the gel plate.

Place a sheet of white mixed media cardstock over the entire surface of the plate and rub over the surface with your hands. This will transfer the image on the plate to the cardstock.

Grab one corner of the cardstock and pull it away from the gel plate.

Here is the image that transfered onto the cardstock. Isn’t it beautiful!

I trimed away the white edges and cut the cardstock in half. Now I have two beautiful backgrounds that I can use to create two cards!

Below are some close-ups of the card I created using this technique.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I created this beautiful alcohol inked stenciled background and that you give this technique a try. Thanks so much for sticking with me to the end. I appreciate you spending your time here with me!

Have a beautifully creative day!
