Trick Or Treat – Simple Halloween Background

Hi friends! It’s been a while since I’ve been able to make a tutorial so I wanted to get something on here even if it’s something simple. These types of backgrounds are so fun because they’re easy and don’t take much time to create but add just the right amount of interest when there is so much going on with the front of the card. Enjoy!

I cut a 4″ x 9″ piece of Canson mixed media cardstock and began by creating a purple and black background using Villianous Potion and Black Soot Distress Inks. I worked with one color at a time beginning with Black Soot and then Villianous Potion making sure to completely dry the ink between layers.

I wanted to edge the panel with the beautiful flowers from the skeleton stamp in the Gothic Tapestry stamp set but I didn’t want the image of the skeleton on the panel. I created a mask to place over the skeleton image before I inked the stamp so only the flowers would transfer. Next, I inked the script stamp from the set with Distress Archival Black Soot Ink and stamped that onto the panel in random areas.

To give the panel depth to draw the eye inward, I inked the edges with Black Soot Distress Ink and splattered on some Black Soot Distress Paint over the entire panel.
