Travel Themed Hearts

Hello friends! It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything new. I’ve been busy with assignments and also with planning my daughter’s bridal shower and wedding. It seems like there are endless things that need to be done when taking on such a monumental task but I want my daughters bridal shower to be something she never forgets. My daughter is an avid traveler so the theme of her shower is, you guessed it, travel themed. I’ve been making many of the decorations myself wanting them to be just so and came up with these beautiful hearts that I’ll attach to either the banner I created or the stairs. I haven’t decided and will probably make a final decision when I start decorating for the actual shower.

To create the hearts I used the solid heart die from the Tim Holtz Sizzix True Love die set. First, I cut two hearts out of travel themed cardstock. Next, I cut two more hearts out of Distress Mixed Media heavystock. For both of the hearts, I glued one mixed media heavystock heart to the back of one of travel themed hearts to to give it more stability. I did this because the travel themed cardstock was very thin. I needed the hearts to be dimensional so I could run string through them and also because they would be seen from both the front and the back.

To create the sides for the hearts, I cut two 3/4″ x 5.5″ strips of cardstock that were inked with Bundled Sage Distress spray stain and then edged with Vintage Photo Distress ink.

Place one of the hearts, printed cardstock side down and run hot glue along one edge of the heart. Using one strip for the sides, press one edge into the hot glue before it melts shaping it along the heart. Do the same to the next side. Before attaching the second heart to the top of the dimensional heart, use a paper punch to punch a hole at the top and bottom center where you will run the string.

Place the string inside the heart making sure it runs through the top and bottom holes and then attach the second heart to the top using the same glueing method as above.

I made a pretty tassle for one of the hearts that will be in the center of the banner and created the tassel using instructions I found on YouTube. Just search for “How to make a tassel”.

I hope this makes sense as I didn’t make any step-out photos. Honestly, I was so immersed in making them that I simply forgot.

Thanks for stopping by and sticking with me to the end. I really appreciate the time you spend here with me.
